وعليكم سلام ورمة الله وبركاته Shayk Al Albani رحمه الله was asked a similar question and the meaning of his answer is that if there is no better option then try your best so that the money will be used for building the foundation of that Masjid or something similar to it and don't just give your money to them because they may use it for wrong purposes like unnecessarily decorating the Masjid like writing verses of the Qur'an on the walls etc.
