Question :
Is there any Daleel to say that singing is Haram ?
بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم والصلاة والسلام على خاتم الأبياء أما بعد
The evidences for the prohibition of singing in the Kitaab , the Sunnah and the ways of the Salaf is abundant enough to support the fact that singing is prohibited. Some of the evidences are as follows:
In Surat al Luqman, Allah عز وجل says :
وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ
And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Qur’an) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-Fire). (Quran 31:6)
Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه said in the Tafseer (exegesis) of this verse “ I swear by the One other than Whom none deserve to be worshipped that it refers to Al Ghinaa (singing) ” and he repeated this three times. Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه said it refers to ‘singing and the like ’ while Jaabir رضي الله عنه has been reported to view its meaning to signify singing and listening to songs. Many Tabi’een such as Mujaahid , Ikrimah , Makhool and Umar ibn Shu’ayb رحمهم الله viewed it as a condemnation against music and songs .
In the Sunnah , our Prophet صلى الله عليه said that some of his followers are going to make singing lawful (Halal) when it is actually forbidden (Haram) and the Hadith is as follows:
سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " لَيَكُونَنَّ مِنْ أُمَّتِي أَقْوَامٌ يَسْتَحِلُّونَ الْحِرَ وَالْحَرِيرَ وَالْخَمْرَ وَالْمَعَازِفَ، . رواه البخاري
Narrated Abu Malik Al-Ash’ari that he heard the Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam saying: “From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks, and the use of musical instruments as lawful " (Sahih al Bukhari)
