وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته Normally it used to be an act done by the women in days of Jahiliyya and that is why the Hadith came in Muannath' (feminine) form like the Hadith of Ibn Masood " لعن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم الواشمة والمستوشمة The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم cursed the woman who tattoos and the woman who asks for it ". They used to make it to beautify themselves for their spouses. And I don't know any specific woman from the female companions or others that has been mentioned that she had it when she entered Islam. But it is sure that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم would not mention it without a reason. And Allah عز وجل knows best.
